I am interested in human experience of nature today. How our environment is used, respected and valued shapes our relationship with the natural world and our place in it. The words of poet, Khalil Gibran: “Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.” have long resonated with me and inform my current work. I am concerned with reclaiming a belonging with nature. This series, framed in our current reality of climate change, emphasizes that there is a better future to work towards.
I work in acrylics because it requires me to be deliberate, without overthinking. This allows the mark making to be spontaneous; capturing movement as a moment in time.
It is important that a painting is handmade and singularly unique. I believe this gives an authenticity to the message in a time where we are inundated with mass production. The brushwork is obvious and is evidence of the painting process as part of the story.
